Playing Big Bass Bonanza for a Week
I did not expect much from Big Bass Bonanza. It looked like one of a hundred tap-and-wait games, and I only downloaded it to fill a gap on a train ride. A week later it is still installed, which says something.
The trick is the reel-in mechanic. When a fish bites, a tension gauge appears and you have to feather your input so the line doesn't snap. It is a tiny skill test, but doing it well feels good every single time. That little loop is what kept pulling me back.
Big Bass Bonanza also knows when to stop. Sessions are short by design, controls are one-thumb, and you never lose progress by putting it down. It slots perfectly into the gaps between heavier strategy games I usually cover here.
My tip: don't spam the reel button. Let the tension settle, then pull in short bursts. You will land bigger catches and feel like you earned them. As a palate cleanser between tower defence marathons, it is genuinely lovely.
